On March 1, 2017, New York Code Rules and Regulations 500 (NYCRR 500) established cybersecurity requirements for the Financial Services Industry (FSI) in New York.
NYCRR 500 requires that each covered entity have a cybersecurity program and a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). Along with these two requirements within this regulatory compliance standards, which most entities have in place already, the regulation also mandates that each entity has access controls, asset management, data governance, sensitive data discovery, and an annual certification of compliance.
